THe Cellar at EDGE GALLERIES

Commissioned exhibition at EDGE GALLERIES in Maldon, where I transformed the space into a large-scale installation of photographs printed on fabric. Drawn to the space's history, particularly the cellar used to store corpses underground during the gold rush years following tunnel collapses, I created an immersive installation that re-imagined the cellar as a meditation experience or vigil. This work honors those who died under stones and rocks while digging for gold, as well as those killed through public stoning while looking for love. The installation speaks to the mining industry, incorporating stones and heaviness to reflect labour, while also addressing the weaponization of stones in public stoning of human beings in the name of religion.

Installation view, commissioned by EDGE GALLERIES, 2023, Maldon. prints on fabric, directional sound, single channel video, 3min, 40 secs.
